We will continue to accept applications after June 30, but they will be processed only after the eligibility of all Homeowners in the first group has been determined.  Once those applications have been processed, applications received on July 1, 2013 or later will be processed on a first received, first processed basis.

Eligible homeowners whose primary residences were damaged or destroyed in the storm can visit the Housing Recovery Centers to apply in-person for two reNew Jersey Stronger housing grants: the Homeowner Resettlement Program and the Homeowner Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Elevation and Mitigation (RREM) Program.

Sandy-impacted homeowners DO NOT NEED to come to the Housing Recovery Centers if they previously applied to the reNew Jersey Stronger grant programs online or over the phone. Base Flood Elevation Maps

FEMA releases preliminary work maps which supersede the Advisory Base Flood Elevation (ABFE) maps as the best available flood hazard data.

The preliminary work maps will be the source of the updated flood hazard data provided in the What is My BFE? report.

NFIP Rate Hikes To begin in 2014 - Amendments are needed now!

On Wednesday June 3rd 2013, The House of Representatives approved an amendment that would stop FEMA from implementing insurance premium hikes.  The amendment by Rep. Bill Cassidy, was added to the 2014 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill.  The full bill is expected to head to a House vote later this month, but it must also win Senate approval.

The 25% hikes could go into effect in less than 6 months if the senate does not pass an amendment.

The process of phasing out the government’s support for flood insurance policies as a result of the
"Biggert-Waters Act of 2012", will immediately impact non-primary residences, business properties, and Severe Repetitive Loss properties. Primary home owners would be safe and continue to be subsidized until they decide to sell. The new homeowner however would not be grandfathered and would have to pay the non subsidized amount.

The long term negative effect of this act, without reform, is potentially crippling to homeowners across the country and should be addressed now.  This amendment will block those rate increases and allow time to carefully modify the Biggert-Waters Act.

Please contact your senators and let them know this reform is needed.
It is very easy for state representatives, with little or no waterfront properties to reject these amendments.  It is important to stay strong and unite with groups who lobby our representatives in Washington.  Support is needed to protect homeowners who live close to rising waters throughout the entire United States
